The Investigative Process

After an initial screening process, an investigating committee will conduct a paper based investigation into the allegations made. This may include analysis of statements made and/or medical records/evidence relating to the allegations. If the Investigating committee considers that there is substance to the allegations then they may refer the matter to be dealt with by way of an NMC Fitness to Practise Hearing.

Fitness to Practice hearings take the form either of a Conduct and Competence Committee Hearing or, as a Health Committee Panel if the issue concerns the nurse or midwife’s physical or mental health.
